Specialized Dementia Care
As you know, people affected by dementia require specialized care. We believe that by providing proper dementia training for our caregivers, enables them to properly care for client's affected by this disease.
Each client is matched with cargivers that best meet their specific needs. Individualized care plans are created that work with clients to assist in maintaining independence and provide security in knowing that you or a loved one is cared for properly.
Specialized training provides our caregivers with the most current information regarding dementia and how to be prepared in meeting the needs of clients. Education and training includes understanding the basics about the disease and development process, behavioral changes and an understanding that Alzheimer’s, specifically, is not a part of the natural aging process.
The next step in our training is to acclimate the caregiver with the different communication skills that will be necessary in caring for an Alzheimer’s patient. We understand that communication may become difficult between caregiver and client. Although speaking is the most comfortable means of communication, it is not the only form of communication - and we educate our caregivers how to effectively communicate with dementia clients.
The last area we are focusing on is related to client behaviors. Caregivers are trained to notice and understand that a client can exhibit a behavior, and/or change in behavior, in an attempt to communicate a need or fear. Understanding the behavior; when it occurs, how often it occurs, and how it is resolved is vital to meeting our client’s needs.
