God calls us to be his hands and feet here on earth. Each day, Susan Jordan, owner of Angels Senior Home Solutions, walks her mission field and helps change the lives of seniors by helping them to be more independent, healthly and confident. This July, she and her family once again reached out to a small village in Ecuador.
Nestled at the foot of volcano Cotopaxi in the Andes Mountains, Romerillos, an isolated village is very rural yet strong in their commitment to faith in God.
In 2009, the family went to build a day care center that was built in loving memory of Susan’s sister, Lisa Franke-Haida. The center was rightly named Lisa's Angels. Susan’s extended family worked side-by-side with the local people that would benefit from this ministry. This unique center, the first of its kind, is facilitating learning and growth for children through the age of 6 years old while providing nourishment for both theiir little bodies and souls.
"They claimed it was a miracle that their village would get such a facility to provide their children with a safe place to live and learn while they worked in the fields to feed their families," says Jordan. "How appropriate that we built the foundation for this day care center since my sister’s life was built on the foundation of our strong family roots."
Jordan and her family returned to the States to continue their ministry to this village. They spear headed a book fair in partnership with their church, Our Lady of the Lakes. Usborne Books, distributed by Anna Kemmer, was the outreach mission partner. This project was a great success! "The purchased books and donations exceeded their expectations reaching $1,158.84. This allowed for an additional $657.47 of free books to be purchased with the proceeds… our cup runneth over! The multiplicity of the books reminds us of Jesus with the loaves and fishes. There will be more than plenty for everyone," says Jordan.
The books were delivered in person this July by Jordan and her family to the day care center built just a year ago. "You can't imagine the faces of the children when they received their own sticker and work book for telling time and learning how to read and write," adds Jordan.
On their return visit, Jordan and her family found that each day the children received a meal with protein - which is something that may only happen once or twice a month at home.
Jordan was overwhelmed with the love and gratitude of this village and its wonderful children.
